Betty Jean Allen

Betty Jean Allen, age 77, passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2017.  She was born on March 8, 1940 in Pensacola, FL where she attended and graduated from Pensacola Catholic High School.  She also earned her Licensed Practical Nursing degree in Pensacola. 

Jean met her husband, Freddie, while working as an LPN at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola.  They were married on July 29, 1966 and moved to Niceville where she continued her career as an LPN.  She also began teaching children at First Baptist Church of Niceville.  Jean and Freddie taught single adults and she was active in the church’s Legacy (Senior Adult) ministry, bereavement team, and the homebound ministry.  She also babysat and helped rear many children as if they were her own. 

In everything, Jean served both her family and church family with kindness, putting them before herself.  She exemplified the love of Jesus Christ, her Savior. 

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Charles W. and Auroa Dickson and her father and mother-in-law, Malcolm F. and Minnie Lee Allen. 

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Freddie Allen; sons, David (Cindy) Allen and Jeff Allen; sisters-in-law, Georgia (Kent) Jennings and Doris Allen; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. 

There will be a visitation from 1:00 – 2:00 pm on Monday, May 22, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Niceville.  Her funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm at the church with Dr. Mike McGough, Rev. Chuck Hartness and Rev. Dennis Brown officiating.  Interment will follow in Heritage Gardens Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, the family request that gifts be made to First Baptist Church of Niceville “Hope for the Future” or to another charity of your choice.
