Beverly Ann Robertson

 Beverly Robertson (Bev), 86, passed away at home in Niceville on September 12, 2017 She was born in Dallas TX October 26, 1930 to Pauline and Nathan Melman. Nathan passed away in 1933, and Pauline subsequently married Dr. Charles Mayer in 1936 and moved to Washington, DC. Bev adored Dr. Mayer and loved him as her father all his life. During the years, Dr. Mayer’s work took Beverly through childhood in Chicago, Tennessee, and finally to Dallas. Bev graduated with honors from Highland Park High School in 1948, and attended SMU for 2 semesters.

Bev worked in early years for Neiman Marcus in Dallas. Friends said that she worked mostly to get the employee clothing discount- a charge she laughingly denies. Having grown into a very beautiful woman, she always wore appropriate and beautiful clothes. She was an artist who had creative skills in painting and her homes were always filled with well-chosen works of art.

Bev loved to travel and made many trips to Mexico for vacations. In addition, she traveled to Hong Kong, Thailand, Rome and Paris. She was a very cheerful traveler who would always do things that other people enjoyed as well as herself.

The game of Mah Jong always intrigued Bev and she was an excellent player who participated in several groups wherever she lived. Her husband learned quickly not to play her for money in gin rummy. Playing the slots in casinos was a fun thing for Bev, and she always seemed to have good luck. She had certain omens of bad luck – one of which was a husband or other relative watching her play. She would quickly get away from the ‘omens’ by finding another place to play. Bev was a big fan of Frank Sinatra and Rod Stewart and attended several of their concerts over the years.

Bev always thought that her life was conducted in many ways by the song “My Way”. The end got near and she faced the final curtain very brave and fearless. She lived a life that was full and traveled every highway and she did it her way. She did what she had to do and saw it through without exception and she did it her way.

Bev is survived by her husband of 44 years, Jerry Robertson. Jerry’s electronic engineering job changes over the years resulted in several moves across the country. She lived in Dallas, San Jose, CA, Austin, and Houston before the move to Niceville FL. in 1992 when Jerry started working at Eglin AFB.

Bev is survived by children from a previous marriage to Harry Morchower: Scott Morchower of Atlanta, Ga; Barry Morchower and Shelly Duncan of Dallas. Bev is survived by Jerry’s daughters: Ann Pitts of Weatherford, TX and Kerry Beasley from Dallas and other step children: James Horwitz, Houston; Sandra Horwitz, Dallas, and Beth Kline, Phoenix, AZ. Bev is survived by eight grandchildren and 6 great grand sons

The family wants to express our deep gratitude for the final loving care and work done by Regency Hospice who made a heart-breaking event easier to handle.

Bev wanted and got a small graveside ceremony in Heritage Gardens Cemetery on September 16, 2017.

Bev had cut out a horoscope reading for her that she wanted friends and family to remember her by: “Bev’s perspective is “A life raft after the storm has capsized the ship. Hop on and then drift out and look back on the sinking remains of the past. You’re safe and headed toward welcoming shores”
