Cora Lane Smith

Cora Lane Smith, age 85 years, most recently of Niceville, FL, and formerly of Milford,Connecticut and Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away March 17, 2017 in Niceville, Florida. She was born in New Haven, Connecticut, and spent her early years in Indianapolis, the daughter of Arthur K. and Thelma C. Lane. Cora graduated from Howe High School, 1949, and Butler University in 1953 having been their first female graduate to major in Accounting and being tapped for Who's Who in colleges. After meeting her husband to be and moving to Connecticut in 1955, she and her husband Dick formed Smith Turf Irrigation Inc. with his father, Carleton B. Smith. The company later became I & E Supply, Inc. in Milford, Connecticut. Upon retiring to Florida in 1993, Cora worked on her golf game playing with friends and became active in the Bluewater Bay Women's Golf Association. Cora was preceded in death by her parents, brother, sister and son, Stephen. She is survived by her husband, Richard (Dick) Wayland Smith, of 6l years; daughter, Patricia; son, Thomas; five grandchildren, Gary, Clint, Tyler, Nicole, and Jordan; and four great-grandchildren. Many thanks go to Kris Rider- Caregiver/Companion of Niceville, FL; nurses, home aids and staff of Emerald Coast Hospice, Crestview, FL for their dedicated and exceptional care shown to Cora. It is Cora's request that there be no services or flowers and donations may be made in her name to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 North Michigan Ave., Chicago, IL 60601-7633. Interment will be held by the family at a future date.
