James Stevenson, SMSgt, USAF, Ret. Obituary

James C. (Jim/Cookie) Stevenson, a long-time resident of Ft Walton Beach, FL died while in Covenant Hospice care at Bay Medical in Panama City, FL following a brief recurrence of bladder cancer.  He was 93. 

He was born in Dover, OH to Peter J. and Frieda M. Kuenzli Stevenson.  He was married to the former Dorothea (Dot) Mae Bernard for nearly 56 years. 

Jim served in the U.S. Marine Corps from Aug 4, 1942 – Jan 3, 1946 and again from Jul 29, 1946 – Jul 28, 1956.  He switched services in 1956 and served in the U.S. Air Force from Jul 30, 1956 – 30 Sep 1971. 

He was a member of numerous organizations including The Grand Lodge F. & A. M. of Ohio, Tuscarawas Lodge No. 59, where he received his 50-year pin; the Knights Templar; Hadji Temple; Fraternal Order of Police, Emerald Coast Lodge #44; VFW, Post 3463, Dover, OH; DAV, Everglade State #2; and many others.

His parents, brother John A. Stevenson, wife, and daughter, Karen (Jackson/Cagle/Hardy) Stevenson preceded him in death.  Jim is survived by his sons, J.B. (Jill) of Cocoa Beach, FL and David (Karen Ann) Stevenson of Orlando, FL; his daughter Marian K. Stevenson, CMSgt, USAF, Ret, of Wetumpka, AL; grandsons Adam (Danielle) Stevenson of Orlando, FL, Christopher (Myra) Jackson, SFC, USA, Ret, of Millbrook, AL; his step-grandson, Mitchell (Angela) Kispert of Colorado Springs, CO and their 4 children; two great grandchildren, Chrisdeeona and Weston Jackson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

His remains were donated to the Anatomical Board of the State of Florida, Gainesville, FL.

A private family service was conducted on March 15, 2018.
