Mae Elizabeth Ann Wright

My wife and sweetheart for fifty - Seven years (3 months shy of 58) lost her lengthy valiant battle against the serial disease that I refer to as ’Cancer’ that began on March 13 2013
She was subjected to radiation many types of CHEMO meds to counteract the punishment and bounced back most of the time and was referred to as the Energizer Bunny by Cancer Center personnel but eventually the energy was overcome too much by the kryptonite like effects of CANCER. She was a Super Women throughout the whole ordeal of a lengthy losing battle.

Mae was born in Staten Island, New York on November 2nd, 1939 and was the daughter of William and Etta Mae Hazard. Her family moved to Narragansett R.I. in 1952. She met her teenage boy friend and future husband Ken Wright where they both attended the same elementary school. They became childhood sweethearts and after being apart for a while, Ken wooed her back into his life and she eventually became his wife. She is a graduate of South Kingston High School in Rhode Island and quite naturally asked Ken to be her Prom date.
One of Ken favorite lines was telling people that he turned a hazard (her maiden name) into someone (W) right.

Ken joined the Air Force in 1958 and was stationed in Wichita Falls, Texas, where Mae not only flew to Texas to visit him which was a task since she didn't like flying. She also married him there on December 19th of that year. Another of Ken's lines to people was that she married him to avoid a return-flight. Actually, we planned on getting married without telling anyone; however, one had to be age 18 in Texas in order to get married which she was and I was not. I had to have my mother mailed written permission to get married. Say! Even though she was just a tad older than me did that somewhat qualify her as earlier version of a ‘COUGAR’.

Mae devoted her time, energy and love to a family of three. She was a devoted Mother, an exceptional Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She had the dual role of parenthood while her husband served two unaccompanied overseas tours while stationed in the USAF. As a Grandmother, she always made time to take the grandkids to medical appointments, sport practices and even watched them during their parents working hours. One of her favorite time was the trips to McDonald's for Chicken McNugget Happy Meals so the Grandkids could get the latest Disney movie figures. Sometimes that involved calls to various McDonalds to fine out, which one they had, or if she could trade a duplicate for the newest toy.  When she became a Great Grandmother she started purchasing and eating Chicken McNugget Happy Meals so she could give the toy for our Great Grandson. She eventually got hooked on MOCHA FRAPPE"S and it became an automatic purchase with each meal. 

Mae also tutored 1st and 2nd grader reading programs at Plew, Edge, and Destin and Mary Esther schools for over 15 years. Mae got stuck in a previous time zone and never adjusted to the digital world even though she eventually received an iPhone. She ways got razed about it quite a bit.  She still preferred to carry hard copy prints in her pocket book versus the iPhone to show people photos. We will get her this time since she won't be aware of it and show a digital version of memory photo during the Celebration of Life service. She was also strictly into Checks and Balance versus debit cards. No doubt customers in the digital world didn't want to get stuck behind her in lines at the register.

She is survived by her husband Ken Sr, Sons Ken Jr., David, Steve and their families, 7 Grandchildren that includes extended family members, one Great Grandson, 21 nephews and nieces, and a younger brother and sister. 

A celebration of her life and interment will take place on 16 September at 2 PM (please arrive by 1:30pm) followed by interment at Heritage Gardens in Niceville, Florida, casual attire. Heritage Gardens is entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers request you make a donation to a charitable organization of your choice in her memory.
