Nancy Merritt Garcia

August 7, 1938 ~ April 28, 2017 (age 78) 78 Years Old

 

Nancy Merritt Garcia, born in Kansas City, MO August 7, 1938, died at home on April 28, 2017.  She joined our Savior, Jesus Christ, and has many relatives and friends in heaven.  Nancy loved life and people.  Her email address, “FunNancy,” describes her personality and philosophy of life. She cherished her family and friends.  A sharing, giving being, she was a caring mother to her children, and welcomed a foster child (Tracie) and two foreign exchange students (Hector and Roderick) into our home.  She provided respite for any of her children’s friends who needed shelter or support. Nancy attended Gulf Park College in Gulfport, MS.  Her roommate introduced her to the love of her life, Bob, and the blind date resulted in a marriage of almost 59 years.Nancy became a military wife who lived in a variety of locations, including Port-au-Prince, Haiti.  She began her volunteering focus at her first military base experience and continued to volunteer up to the present. Nancy loved to volunteer in many aspects of community efforts after Bob retired from both a 28-year career in the United State Marine Corps, and a 12-year post-military career in Farmington Hills, MI.  They made and continue to keep in touch with many friends that they made there. Nancy was very involved in designing and building their home in Bluewater Bay.  She was a member of the Officers’ Wives (Spouse) Club at Eglin AFB, where she also volunteered at the Club’s Thrift Shop.  She was a Charter Member of the Cooking Club of America, actively participated in the Twin Cities Women’s Club and their Relay for Life, and participated in a wide variety of other community service activities to include the Crosspoint Church Sharing and Caring program and Bargain Box. Nancy was the caring mother of Cidni (Garcia) Vaughn, daughter; Mark Garcia, son, both of Overland Park, KS, and Randy Garcia, son, from Colorado Springs, CO.  She leaves six grandchildren, Rachel, Joelle, Daniel, and Melody of Colorado Springs; Delaney and Dawson of Overland Park, KS.She is survived by her loving husband,Colonel Robert (Bob) Garcia, USMC Retired, of Niceville, FL.
