Samuel Luther Pate entered his heavenly home on October 13, 2017. Luther, as he was called by his family, was born and raised in Williamston, North Carolina on August 27, 1931 to Charles and Zadie Pate.  He had eight brothers and sisters, Charles Jr., Maurice, Clarence, Clifton, Louise Bowen, Elizabeth (Libby) Travis, Shirley Hoyt and Larry.  He married the love of his life, Lavina Ruth Yeager in January 1952. Sam joined the Air Force in 1949 at the age of 18 and faithfully served his country for over 20 years. He is survived by his daughter, Ranae Curtis (Warren) of Shalimar; son, Samuel Ernest Pate (Tena) of Tallahassee; five grandchildren, Richard Ives (Peggy) of Niceville; Elisabeth Curtis of Fort Walton Beach; Eric and Nathan Pate and William Curtis all of Tallahassee, Florida. A private family burial was held October 24, 2017 at Heritage Gardens Cemetery in Niceville. A Celebration of Live will be held November 18 at 1st United Methodist Church in Fort Walton Beach at 2:00 p.m., with visitation held one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in their name to First UMC building fund or Trinity UMC Our Daily Bread soup kitchen.
