Sharon D. Reaves

Sharon DeBruhl Reaves, 58, passed away Monday evening, May 8, 2017, following a long battle with cancer. Sharon was born April 17, 1959 in Valparaiso, Florida to Robert Roosevelt “Rosey” DeBruhl and Minnie Lou Ellis, and she was a resident of Niceville, Florida nearly all her life. Sharon was the picture of kindness, and she never met a stranger. She spent her entire life using her gift of compassion and tenderheartedness ensuring others remained happy, healthy, and loved. She enjoyed cooking and could make an immaculate meal out of whatever she found in the cabinets. Family and friends were her delight, and Sharon particularly treasured her only daughter, Shannon, guiding her through life from a young age with encouragement, warm hugs, and unconditional love.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Minnie Lou; grandparents, Wilbur Langston and Ruth Eubanks Langston; brother, Jeffrey DeBruhl; and son, James Doyle "Jamie" Simmons Jr. She is survived by her husband of almost 16 years, Joel “Tison” Reaves; daughter, Shannon R. Smith of Canton, Michigan; step-sons, Tison G. “Tiger” Reaves and Nicolas Miller (Rachel), both of Niceville; brother, Joe Ellis (Wendy) of Madison, Mississippi; step-sister, Alison DeBruhl of Shalimar; nephews, John Jeffrey DeBruhl of Panama City and Tyler Brown and William Ellis, both of Madison, Mississippi; nieces, Devan DeBruhl of Valparaiso and Meghan Ellis and Megan Brown of Madison, Mississippi; great-nephews Brantley Barniv of Niceville and Gage DeBruhl of Panama City; long-time dear friend, Debra Kinsey Jowers of Opp, Alabama; and many other close friends.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the caring and compassionate staffs of the Emerald Coast Cancer Center and Emerald Coast Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
