Diane Plank Obituary

Diane Loux Plank of Niceville, Florida, passed away on April 12, 2024, at the age of 79, leaving a void in the hearts of all those who knew her.  Diane was born March 16, 1945, in Philadelphia and graduated from Haverford High School. On July 10, 1965, she married Tom Plank, her high school sweetheart, following his graduation from the Air Force Academy. Together they enjoyed traveling and making many lifelong friends during assignments to many different locations, her favorite being Tom’s exchange pilot tour with the Royal Air Force in England.

While being a stay-at-home mom to three children, Diane returned to college and, in 1984, obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Education degree from the University of South Carolina. She touched the lives of many of her students with her compassion, thoughtfulness, and enthusiastic approach to teaching. A long-time educator, Diane started her career at Richbourg Junior High School (1985–1986) and then transferred to Niceville Senior High School, where she taught Advanced Placement Economics and Government (1987–2005).  She received “Teacher of the Month” certificates numerous times at both schools. One of her many accomplishments was, as an advisor, winning 1st place in the UWF Center for Economic Education “Stock Market Game” beating 270 other teams. The family takes comfort in knowing Diane left behind a legacy of kindness and devotion that will inspire generations to come.

In retirement, Diane continued her lifelong passion of learning, and volunteered at The Heritage Museum, where she not only conducted research but was the Board of Trustees Secretary. During her time at the museum, Diane’s exploration into Niceville/Valparaiso lore led to her receiving the Christian LaRoche Volunteer Recognition Award for her admirable dedication and service in promoting and preserving the history and culture of Northwest Florida.  In her spare time, Diane enjoyed yoga, British television crime dramas, crossword puzzles, and was a voracious reader.

Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Titus and Edith Loux, and her half-brothers, David and Richard Moyer.  She is survived by her husband, Tom, son Craig Plank (Dawndy), daughter Tracy Fundenburg (Brian), son Kenny Plank (Jen), half-sister Kate Wheeler, and her precious grandchildren: Chandler, Chase, Camille, Emery, Samantha, Kimberly, Holly, and twins Keira and Alena.
