Clarence Carter Godwin, age 80, of Valparaiso, FL passed away peacefully on June 26, 2018. Carter was born on November 20, 1937 in Caryville, FL to John M. and Lonnie Godwin. The youngest of nine children, Carter grew up in Fort Walton Beach, FL and graduated from Choctawhatchee High School. A true native of the area, he and his family lived and worked on the beaches of Okaloosa Island. He served in the United States Navy before settling in Valparaiso, FL where he retired from Construction Service Company.
Carter was an Elk for 47 years including 17 years with the Twin Cities Elks Lodge in Valparaiso where he served as a Trustee for 10 years. He was married to the love of his life, Lorraine, for 39 years. Their love of travel and cruising with friends and family took them to various, exciting destinations. A gifted story teller, it gave him joy to make others laugh. Carter was loved by all who knew him.
He is survived by his “Sweet Thing,” Lorraine; his brother, Frank (Sue) Godwin; children, Carla Cooper, Jamie (Merrina) Godwin, Annette (Jimmy) Hart, Donna (Jeff) Greep, Lisa Boisjolie; 10 grandchildren of whom he was so proud, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, 6/30/18 at 11:00am at Heritage Gardens Funeral Home, 2201 N Partin Drive, Niceville FL. A Celebration of Life will follow at 1:00pm at the Twin Cities Elks Lodge, 224 Seminole Ave., Valparaiso, FL.
