Clifton Reginal Smith of Niceville, Florida born on 1 August 1927 in Cottonwood, Alabama to the late Fletcher Hamilton Smith and Lois Scernic Burnham passed away peacefully at age 91 on 17 August 2018 at Superior Residences in Niceville, FL.
Clifton grew up in Cottonwood and later moved to DeFuniak Springs and then to Niceville where he lived for many years. He was a member of the US Navy and US Army during WWII and later graduated in 1956 from Auburn University, Alabama Polytechnic Institute as an Environmental Engineer and took a job at Eglin AFB in Civil Engineering where he retired in 1989
Clifton was the beloved husband of Jewell P. Smith for the last 8 years of his life. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Fletcher Hamilton Smith and Lois Scernic Burnham; three brothers, George Hicks Smith, Fletcher Frederick Smith and Larry Hamilton Smith; two sisters, Blonette Bynam and Jackie Womble and two sons, David and Wayland Smith. Clifton is survived by his wife, Jewell P. Smith, step son Ken Sadler (Sharon); step daughter Sandee Sadler; sisters Cabira Harrell and Vonne Johnson and many others who loved him.
Much appreciation is given to the caregivers and nurses of Superior Residence in Niceville and Emerald Coast Hospice.
Clifton chose cremation and a private celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
