Jan Ann Chaney

September 19, 1943 ~ January 5, 2018 (age 74) 74 Years Old

Jan Ann Chaney was born September 19, 1943 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to her loving parents, Chester and Mary Whyte. She passed peacefully surrounded by the love of her family in Fort Walton Beach, Florida on January 5, 2018.

Jan was a natural entrepreneur, who started and sold several successful businesses in her lifetime. She opened Chaney’s Sugarland Florist in 1976 and Fort Bend Office Supply in 1980, followed by O’Bryan’s ice cream parlor in the Houston area. She continued a vibrant career as a business woman in many different industries. She was drawn back again to the beauty of flowers, and re-opened King florist of Austin in 1994, which she ran for over a decade. She was predeceased by her parents, her infant son Todd, and by her beloved sisters Elizabeth Whyte, Gaynell Watson, and Sandra Whyte.

She is survived by her husband, John Chaney, who is so grateful for the life and family they built together. She is also survived by her children, whom she loved dearly, son, Dr. Christopher Chaney and his wife, Susan Chaney, who was like a daughter, and by her son, Bryan Chaney and his wife Emily Chaney. She is also survived by her two grandchildren, whom she adored: Luke and Lauren Chaney. Finally, she is survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles and in-laws, all of whom loved and respected her.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Emmaus Catholic Church in Lakeway, TX. A reception for family and friends will follow at the home of Bryan and Emily Chaney in Cedar Park.

Jan spent decades supporting and caring for her husband John, who battles Parkinson’s disease to this day. As an alternative to memorial flowers, please consider a donation to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research in her name.
