On Saturday, January 19, 2019, Kimberly Cathell (maiden name Garigliano), loving wife and mother of two children, passed away at the age of 44 after a five-year struggle with cancer.
Kim was born on April 29, 1974 in Salisbury, Maryland to Patricia and Leonard Garigliano. She was a 1996 graduate of Salisbury University, and was an elementary school teacher and school volunteer for over 15 years. One June 3, 1996, she married John Cathell. They raised a son Jack, and a daughter, Allie.
Kim was known for her quick wit, infectious smile, and an unmatched love of life. An avid fitness buff, she completed the Destin Beach 50k Ultra shortly after her first round of chemotherapy. Despite a grueling medical regimen, she maintained an active schedule for her children, volunteered at her church, and held numerous key positions with the Plew Elementary School Parent Leaders Association. Through it all, she was a model of grace and courage under the most difficult of circumstances.
Kim is survived by her husband, John, and her children, Jack and Allie. She is also survived by her father Leonard, brother Timothy, and sister, Michele.
A Funeral service will be held on Friday, February 1, 2019 at the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Niceville at 2 o’clock p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Holy Name of Jesus Building Fund, 1200 Valparaiso Blvd, Niceville, FL 32578 or the Plew Elementary School Parent Leaders Association, 220 Pine Avenue, Niceville, FL 32578.
