Nancy Gettinger Ray

It is with a heavy heart that we all mourn the passing of a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher and friend. She is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Mauri Ray. Nancy leaves behind her two children, Patti (Dewey) Blaylock and Tom Ray; grandchildren, Justin (Allison) Blaylock, Christy (Craig) Kowalski, Katie Ray and Carrie (Sean) O’Connor and four great-grandchildren Chase, Blake, Bryce and Amelia. She also has two surviving sisters, Alice Kaufman and Janice Fisher of Union City, Indiana

Although, her passing is a tragic loss for those left behind, we can celebrate her 82 years with us and all of her accomplishments. She and Maurice left Indiana to embark on his military career that took them to Oklahoma, Louisiana, Japan, Nebraska, North Carolina and then finally Florida. While raising her family she completed her degree and went on to teach 6th grade for over 25 years. Not only did she positively impact the lives of 600 plus children, she taught both of her children.

In addition to being a great teacher, she was the consummate entertainer and cook. The house was always full of their friends and family that they cared so much about. They loved their home of 40 years in Niceville and all who became part of their lives. Thanks Mom, for everything you did for us … you will forever be in our hearts as we continue our life’s journey.
