Betty Jo (nee Hamilton) Courtney, 78, of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, left this earth to be with her heavenly Father on Saturday, March 14, surrounded by her children and best friend. Betty was born on December 24, 1947, in Valparaiso to Jim and Rosa Lee Hamilton. She had a passion for Christ, singing, and her family. She enjoyed her many years of leading worship service and adored the children that she encountered during her 40 years driving a school bus. She loved to craft, was an excellent seamstress, treated her dogs like family, and never met a stranger.
Preceded in death by her parents, sister Linda, granddaughter Morgan, and her 2 precious pups, she is survived by her children; Stacey Courtney, Shelley (Pete) Hanlon, Jared (Carrie) Courtney, 8 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, her brother John Hamilton, and sister Lythan Hamilton.
In lieu of flowers, please take a moment to read Betty Jo’s favorite scriptures, John 3:16 and Romans 8:28; reflect on your relationship with Christ and tell those who matter how much you care. A celebration of Betty’s life will be held from 1-3 pm Saturday, March 21, at Lincoln Park in Valparaiso, Florida.
