Betty Pearl Hicks was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. She passed away on February 28, 2024, at the age of 80 surrounded by her loved ones. She was a wonderful person who was always there when we needed her. She had many friends and was a well-loved member of the community in Niceville, Florida. We will miss her greatly.
Betty was born August 10, 1943, in DeFuniak Springs, Florida, to the late Harron Clifford Coon, Sr. and Lena Loveta Coon. She was raised and attended school in Okaloosa County and graduated from Choctawhatchee High School. Betty married her loving husband, James Wendell Hicks, on August 28, 1964, and successfully managed the Hicks Shrimping Fleet: the Family Pride, the Family Tradition, and the late Family Affair. Betty was an active member of Rosemont Baptist Church of Niceville. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and shared the love of Jesus Christ with others. She was a passionate gardener and when she wasn't filling her home with warmth and kindness, she could be found working in her yard with her various flowers and plants.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her son, David Ryan Hicks, and her grandson, Dawson Cole Hicks. She is survived by her devoted husband, her children James Randel Hicks, Ronald Wayne Hicks and his wife, Tara, Daniel Rubin Hicks, and his wife, Shannon, and Shane Rendell Hicks, and his wife, Kristen. Betty was loved and cherished by her grandchildren, Morgan, Travis, Landon, Colton, Chase, Avery, Abby, AJ, Carleigh, Samuel, Shane, Jr. and Dawson Klaire. She was also loved by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
