Mr. Caray Lee "Skipper" Kemp Jr - A native of Chickasaw, Alabama and longtime resident of Niceville, Florida was peacefully called home to be with his Lord and Savior while at home surrounded by loved ones on August 10, 2022.
Skipper was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Crestview. He completed a bachelor's degree at the University of Southern Mississippi, which is also where he met his wife. He loved playing football at Vigor High School and with his teammates at Southern Miss. He spent the majority of his adult life working at Eglin Air Force Base where he was a familiar face with the youth programs and where he retired from after more than thirty years of service. He enjoyed golf, even if his handicap didn’t always agree. He loved his coffee shop buddies and his daily visits with the fellas in the corner booth.
Skipper was preceded in death by his wife of 28 years, Janice Kemp, his parents, Caray Sr and Elizabeth Kemp, and sister, Patricia Sharpe.
Survivors include one son, Caray Kemp (Mac) of Defuniak Springs, FL and a daughter, Dr Tanya Colledge (Josh) of Highland, UT and four grandchildren, Kyra, Jocelyn, Elijah and Ethan. He is also survived by his fiancé, Deborah Watson.
Special thanks to those who treated him at Emerald Coast Cancer Center, Genesis Care, Emerald Coast Hospice and Kindred at Home for allowing us to treasure nearly two extra years with him.
The family will receive friends and family for visitation at Heritage Gardens in Niceville on Monday, August 15 from 6 to 8pm.Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 16 at 9am at First United Methodist Church of Crestview. Interment will follow in Heritage Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Skipper's memory to the First United Methodist Church of Crestview or Chickasaw for their vacation Bible school or the American Cancer Society.
