Carmen Ochoa Zamora, a beloved mother, grandmother, and educator, passed away peacefully July 6, 2025. Born on March 20, 1939, in Mexico, Carmen was the firstborn of Maria Elena Espinoza Ochoa and Valente Ochoa. Her life was a testament to resilience, love, and the enduring strength of family and culture.
Carmen immigrated to the United States as a young child in 1945, settling in Raymondville, Texas. Carmen grew up in Raymondville spending time with her sister Esperanza and best friend Maria. This is also where she would go on her first date with her future husband, Raul Zamora. Carmen graduated from Raymondville High School and later earned her teaching degree in 1982 after raising five children and supporting her husband Raul through his military and academic career.
Carmen married Raul Zamora, on December 18, 1960. Together, they built a life rooted in mutual respect, friendship, and shared values. Their partnership spanned over six decades and was marked by unwavering support, deep affection, and a shared commitment to their family and community. Together, they raised five children and created a home filled with love.
A dedicated educator, Carmen taught ESOL and kindergarten in the Okaloosa County School District, where she and Raul collectively contributed over 40 years of service. Her passion for teaching and her ability to connect with children left a lasting impact on countless lives.
Carmen was a woman of many talents and passions. She loved music—especially Lady Gaga and Madonna—enjoyed reading, gardening, sewing, and cooking. She was active in her community, a proud member of the Niceville Exchange Club, and a regular at the Niceville Senior Center. Her warmth and generosity touched everyone she met.
She is survived by her and Raul’s five children: Raul Zamora Jr., Cindy Zamora Wrenn, Debbie Tate (Neal), Bernadette Zamora (Tom McVoy Jr.), and Daniel Zamora. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Joseph L. Zamora, Jayden A. Zamora, Samuel O. Zamora, Jackson A. Wrenn, Brittany Tate, Trevin Tate, Alexandra Taylor (Luke Breland), and her great-grandson, Elias Carter Tate. She is also remembered fondly by her sister Esperanza Sanchez, nephew Matthew, and extended family including Tony, Julie, and Jack Taylor, and Lindsey Walker.
Carmen’s life was a bridge between generations, cultures, and communities. She lived through profound social change and helped shape a better future for her children and grandchildren. Her strength, grace, and unwavering love will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
