Carolyn Clemmons Obituary

Carolyn Sue Clemmons was born on March 28, 1935 in Pulaski, Tennessee and passed away on July 6, 2018 in Niceville, Florida at the age of 83 years. She was pre-deceased by her loving husband of 57 years, MSgt. Fred Clemmons; her parents, Herman and Lorene Howell; and her brother Ralph Howell. She is survived by her four children, Keith Clemmons (Leah), Tim Clemmons (Robin), Belinda Parsons (Tim) and Lisa Clemmons; her six grandchildren, Daniel Clemmons (Missy), Cody Clemmons (Rachel), Alexa Clemmons (Mike), Mallory Bailey (Robin), Emily Parsons and Troy Clemmons (Courtney); and her three great-grandchildren, Reagan Clemmons, Evan Clemmons and Hadley Clemmons.

Carolyn was born and raised on a farm in southern Tennessee. She graduated first in her class at Giles County High School in 1953 and eloped with Fred, her high school sweetheart, while still in high school. She traveled around the country (as well as a stint in Newfoundland, Canada) as a military wife while having and raising her children. Their last assignment was Eglin Air Force Base and upon Fred’s retirement in 1979 they moved to Niceville. Carolyn immensely enjoyed her first and last full-time job at Eglin Library where she worked from 1973 to 2000.

Carolyn lived years beyond expectations after being diagnosed with interstitial lung disease. She never complained and her bravery through adversity was an inspiration. There were many painful days in the last 15 years, but these were justly compensated by the joy of visits with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, the youngest of which she met just six days before her passing.

She loved gardening, cats, traveling, sewing, cooking, reading and crossword puzzles. But most of all she loved her family. Through her quiet example she taught us how to better love and care for one another. All who had the good fortune to meet her immediately knew hers was a kind and generous soul.

The family would like to sincerely thank her many caregivers, especially Dr. Wyndal Blankenship and his wonderful staff and Ulanda Daniels who cared for her so well at home. You were her family too and she loved you all.

Nana, we love you and miss you beyond words.
