Christian Gibson Obituary

Our cherished son, father, brother, uncle, and friend, Christian Gibson, aged 50, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 2.

Christian was born on January 22, 1976. He was preceded in death by his mother, Diane Gibson, Uncles Charlie Gibson and Fred Gibson, Aunt Carole Snyder, and nephew, Ryan Gibson.  After the loss of his mother at such a young age, Caralee came into his life when he was five years old. From that moment on, he was her son in every sense of the word, and the love his parents and family have for him is beyond measure.

He is survived by his daughter, Grace Gibson; Grace’s mother, Halla; his parents, Gene and Caralee Gibson; sisters Kim McGuire (Gerry) and Catherine Gibson; brothers Patric (Sarah) Gibson and Jon Eric Gibson; niece Anna Kristine Roth (Elliott); nephews Thomas (Gerri) Roth and Andrew Gibson; Uncles Jerry Gibson (June) and Mike Gibson (Kiki), a special aunt Gaby Robson (Scott); and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and lifelong friends.

Christian’s sudden and unexpected passing has left a space in this world and in all who loved him that cannot be filled.

Christian began life as a skinny, tow-headed little boy who survived on eggs, cheese, and fish sandwiches—and nothing else. His family worried. They need not have. In time, he became an adventurous eater, known for some of the most unusual food combinations anyone had ever seen, and a genuinely talented cook who loved preparing meals with his daughter, Grace. Still, he never quite learned to like “lettuce bones.”

From an early age, Christian was insatiably curious and mechanically gifted. At just eight years old, he carefully took apart his grandparents’ dishwasher—the one a repairman had declared beyond saving—put it back together and brought it back to life. That moment set the pattern for the rest of his life. Engines became his passion: cars, boats, motorcycles, lawnmowers, the more powerful, the better. He had a gift for breaking things down and rebuilding them stronger, faster, and better than before. But racing engines—the roar, the adrenaline—were his greatest thrill. Alongside Jon Eric, Catherine, and Uncle Charlie, he took on a Formula racing boat project that became the experience of a lifetime.

He carried that same drive and brilliance into his career as a systems engineer at his family’s security and electronics integration company. The more complex the challenge, the more focused he became. He was tenacious, exceptionally skilled, and a natural teacher, especially to his brother, Jon Eric. Stronger than a torque wrench and firmly convinced there was always a solution, he approached every problem “the Christian way”—determined to get it done right. His coworkers, clients, and all who learned from him will miss him deeply.

Anyone who knew Christian knew he loved the outdoors—preferably at 100+ mph (with emphasis on the “plus”). But nothing in his life compared to the day Grace was born. No engine, no matter how powerful, could rival the love he had for her. She was his greatest treasure, and being her father was his proudest accomplishment.

He brought her into his world the same way he once brought his little sister Catherine into his—fearlessly, joyfully, and with unwavering protection. From the time she was three, Catherine rode on the back of his dirt bike, again and again, always feeling completely safe and deeply loved at his side. With Grace, he shared that same spirit, while also meeting her wherever her own passions lead. He gave her his full devotion, embracing what she loved with patience, humor, and loyalty—even sitting still as she carefully wove Christmas ornaments into his massive beard, revealing the gentle “teddy bear” and girl-daddy he truly was.

Christian was a gentle giant—a quiet force. Loyal to his core. Stubborn and tenacious as the day is long. When he was feeling mischievous, you would see it in his signature grin, hear it in his chuckle, and catch it in his dancing eyes. He was the person you called when you needed help no one else could give. He was always there—and somehow, we all believed he always would be.

We find comfort in knowing that Christian believed in God’s mercy and blessings, that he has been reunited with his mother, and that he is waiting to greet us again with one of his big bear hugs—ready to show us his latest “go-fast project” or the remodel he is surely working on Heaven’s Gates.

The best description of Christian comes from his own words:

“I’m an affectionate Southern gentleman who still believes in opening doors and pulling out chairs for ladies. I am old school. I am brutally honest and maybe a little long-winded. I am real. I am a boots-and-jeans kind of guy, but can be classy when necessary. I am honest and loyal to a fault. I believe in God’s mercy and blessings. I am not perfect by any means. I prefer outdoor activities. I like projects. I try to keep myself busy building or working on something. I like hunting, shooting, riding in the woods, off-roading, boating, and fishing. I think you get the point. I enjoy pretty much anything you can do outside, but I also like cooking, a little TV, and definitely those Netflix binge days. Anything else—just ask.”

Christian found joy in life’s simple pleasures, and in lieu of flowers, he would have wanted everyone to spend time with family and friends—whether outdoors or enjoying the thrill of a car race.

Christian’s sister Catherine and family invite you to share any stories—big or small—as well as any photos, so she can compile them for Grace and the family. In this way, we hope he can continue to share more of himself with all of us. Please send contributions to catgibson21@gmail.com. We are deeply grateful for anything you would like to share.

Now, as he liked to say, “It’s all good in the hood.”

A memorial to celebrate Christian’s life will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend.
