Clara "Bobbie" Cheney Obituary

Clara Roberta Cheney (Bobbie) of Fort Walton Beach passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on Sunday, December 10, 2023. Bobbie was born on February 27, 1938, in Kechi Kansas. She was the middle child of five children of Paul and Ella Matson. At the young age of eight our mother, Bobbie, was driving a tractor on the family farm. She married Frederick Alan Cheney I in 1955 and had three children, Frederick Alan Cheney II, Peter Jeffery Cheney, & Alanna Gayle Cheney-Ros. Being the wife of an enlisted Air Force airman, the military took the family all over the world including England, & Okinawa.  Bobbie was a beloved wife, mother, and devoted to the United Methodist Church.  Bobbie dedicated her time to her pets, volunteering for the less fortunate, and provided a home for people to have a place to stay. She was a thrifty homemaker who always provided more than enough for family and friends. There was never a dinner that there wasn’t enough for unexpected guests to feel welcomed and invited. Bobbie taught swim lessons, coached the swim team, was an administrative assistant at a law firm, interior designer, & a school bus driver for Okaloosa County. Hobbies included sewing, the beach, cooking, pets, volleyball, canoeing, camping, fishing, & scalloping.  Proceeded in death by parents Paul and Ella Matson, sister, Rozella Roach, brother, Richard Matson, brother, Rudy Matson, husband of 60 years, Frederick Alan Cheney I.

She will be dearly missed by her three children: Fred, Pete, & Alanna (Gus). Also surviving are grandsons Jordan Hattaway, Grayson & Neelan Ros, granddaughters Lauren Pixley, & Anneliese Manley-Cheney. Special thanks for all that have helped loved and cared for mom over these last years, Bayport Assisted Living, & Gentiva Hospice. Life will never be the same without her, but knowing mom was surrounded by a village of people that loved her has given us, her family peace during this difficult time.
