Daniel “Dano” Brown passed away on October 8, 2020, after a hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer. He died at his home in Niceville, Florida, with his wife and sons by his side.
Dan was born in Kankakee, Illinois, to Ernest and Vivian Brown (later Blanchette) on October 9, 1958. He grew up in St. Anne, IL, and attended Bishop McNamara High School then continued his education at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Dan graduated with a BA degree in Psychobiology. He joined the Air Force on Feb. 2, 1981. His first assignment took him to Ramstein AFB, Germany, where he met and married his wife Mary (Daley) Brown. Dan was proud to have been a pilot and to have flown the F15C during his 23 years with the Air Force. He continued to serve his country as a civil servant. At the time of his death, he was Chief of Test Operations at the 53rd Wing on Eglin AFB, FL.
Dan loved his wonderful friends, some of whom were baseball teammates, golf buddies, and, of course, his AF family. Dan had the privilege to work with so many great friends, both during his active duty and civil service assignments. All who knew Dan, knew he was a Cubs’ fan and a Bud man.
Dan is survived by his wife of 36 years, and his two beloved sons, Jake Daniel Brown and Ryan Daley Brown. He is also survived by his sisters, JoLynn Oliver (husband Tom) and Cathy Collings (husband Guy), and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, who all loved him dearly, as did Mary’s family.
There will be a Celebration of Life at 3rd Planet Brewery located at 1400 East John Simms Parkway in Niceville, FL, on Wednesday, October 14, 2020, from 4-6pm. Out of respect for and in honor of Dan, Mary is requiring attendees to wear masks and be aware of social distancing.
Dan will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors at a later date.
