Don Cunard was born on December 20th, 1956 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Donald Lee and Bette Lois Cunard. Don passed away peacefully on Friday, March 12th after a tough battle with GIST cancer. He was a beloved father, son, “Grampa”, uncle, cousin and friend to many.
Don graduated from the University of Florida in 1985 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He moved to Niceville, FL upon graduating to work as a civil service engineer for the United States Air Force. During his career, he also earned his master’s degree. After retiring from civil service, Don became the Director of Munitions for Global Technical Systems. In his spare time, he loved spending time with family, coaching his daughters’ teams, playing in the yard, fishing, boating, playing guitar, watching Gator sports, and working on his property. He was passionate about nature, music, and art and spent each day living life to the fullest.
Don is remembered for being fun loving, intelligent, funny, encouraging, and laid back. Don was preceded in death by his father, Donald Lee Cunard. He is survived by his mother Bette Nance, daughter Danielle Cunard and husband Scott Markowitz, daughter Summer Green and husband Jason Green, daughter Courtney Parkhill and husband Blair Parkhill, and grandsons Dylan Cunard, Hudson Farmer, and Wilson Green.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, March 26th. Visitation will be at 2pm with a memorial service at 3pm at Heritage Gardens Funeral Home in Niceville, FL. The family requests attendees wear bright colors to celebrate Don’s life. The family also requests plants in lieu of flowers so they can grow them for years to come in memory of his green thumb.
