Edwin Allen Halprin, Air Force veteran and avid golfer, passed away on Sunday, May 2, 2021. Ed was born in Pennsylvania on December 14th, 1939. In high school he was a point guard for his basketball team and played trombone in the band. He graduated from the University of Florida and earned a Master’s from Florida State University. He was a 20-year member of the United States Air Force and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. After retirement, he went into business as a defense consultant specializing in contracts and retired again after selling his company.
Ed is survived by his wife, Patricia Halprin (McClendon) and his two sons, Steven and David Halprin. His other son, Mark, passed away in 2013. He is also survived by two brothers, Jim and Mike Halprin, three daughters-in-law, Tammy, Cathy and Jan, along with three grandchildren, Marisa, Brenna and Chris.
He is remembered for his two passions in life, his family and golf. In the former, he was an ever-present father who guided his children in academics and sports. In the latter, he was a multiple time winner of the Masters and the PLAYERS Championship in his dreams. In reality, he was a member of the Rocky Bayou Country Club, and participated in many father/son golf tournaments. Other things he will be remembered for are off-key renditions of Frank Sinatra’s “My Way”, collecting tools in his garage that he never used, and loving his now-deceased dog Dusty almost as much as golf.
