On the 7th of October 2021, Frances Cole Brame passed on to eternal life.
She came into this world in 1935 on a small farm in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, in a house built by her father. Growing up in abject poverty, she was determined to somehow make a better life for herself. Eventually settling in Richmond VA, she accepted an entry level job at Traveler’s Insurance Company, working her way up to Senior Claims Examiner after 18 years of loyal service. Despite constantly struggling to make ends meet while raising two young boys by herself, she always found a way to provide for her children. At the age of 46 she realized her lifelong dream and graduated from nursing school and went on to have a long and satisfying second career as a Registered Nurse, working part-time as a nurse well into her 70’s. She loved to entertain her family and friends at dinner parties and excelled as an amateur interior decorator.
She was preceded in death by her first-born son Stephen Edgar Lambert, her sister Mary Alice, her parents Matilda and Frank William Cole, and her much loved Aunt Cloia and Uncle Frank Deskins.
She is survived by her loving son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Margaret Shepherd, grandson Scott (Shepherd) Baldric, granddaughters Lindsey Irvine and Angela Lambert and children, great-grandson Alexander Baldric, and sisters Ella Mae Shepherd and Betty Jean Cole.
