Gordon Mitchell Obituary

Gordon D. Mitchell passed away at home on April 14, 2021 surrounded by his wife and children after a long battle with health issues. Mitchell, as he was known to most, was originally from Big Rapids, MI. After graduation he joined the Air Force which eventually led him to Eglin. There he met his wife Wanda. They traveled around with his military career before settling down in Niceville, FL to raise their two children. He spent 29 total years in service to his country in several different capacities. He served in many military campaigns including Vietnam and Desert Storm. In his later years Mitchell enjoyed refinishing furniture in his shed or helping out at the local farmers market on the weekends. Mitchell was a tender and loving man who adored his family more than anything and always enjoyed a good conversation.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Wanda Mitchell; son Michael Mitchell and daughter Michelle Kowal (Peter); grandchildren Joshua Hoffman, Jackson Kowal, and Emma Kowal; nieces Cindy Stabile and Laurie Stearns and nephew Mike Mitchell; sister in law Candy Pate (Larry).
Mitchell is preceded in death by his parents Regnold and Doris Mitchell; brother Steven Mitchell and sister Sandy Berta.
We wish you a gentle journey to your home in Heaven. May you find the peace you deserve and always keep a watchful eye over those who remain behind for we will see you all too soon.
A graveside service will be held for family and friends at the Heritage Garden Funeral Home at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks for any donations to be made to the Wounded Warriors.
