Hazel Genette Taylor, born January 25, 1942, in Hartford, Alabama, to Richard Thompson and Bessie Shipes, passed away peacefully at her home on April 13, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Hazel was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who touched the lives of all who knew her. She was a woman of fierce independence. Stubborn in the best of ways, she stood firm in her values and beliefs. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Taylor; her daughter, Donna Tucker; her granddaughter, Stephanie Tucker; her parents, Richard and Bessie Thompson; her brother, Valton Thompson; and her sisters, Lois Bass, Myrtle Brown, and Louise Eldridge.
Hazel’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She loved the Lord deeply and was a devoted member of First United Pentecostal Church in Niceville, where she found strength, joy, and fellowship with her church family. Her life was a testament to her unwavering belief in God and her commitment to living a life of grace and service.
Hazel’s memory will be cherished by her son, Daniel (Darlene) Taylor; her grandchildren, Phillip Tucker, Jennifer (John) Coiner, Kayla (David) Law, and Jesse Taylor; and her great-grandchildren, Penelope Draper, Elijah Coiner, Liam Law, and Jamie Law. She is also survived by her loving siblings Edward (Buddy) Thompson, Doyle Thompson, Richard (Floyd) Thompson, Norma Smothers, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Hazel’s legacy of faith, resilience, and devotion to her family and church will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever loved and remembered.
She will be laid to rest at Magnolia Cemetery in Defuniak Springs, FL.
