MSgt (Ret) Herbert K. Black
Herbert (Herb) Kenney Black, age 69, passed away on May 15, 2022. He is survived by his beloved wife, Maggie, of 44 years, daughter SMSgt (Ret) Laurie (Cheryl) Doughty of Fort Walton Beach, FL, son David (Amber) Doughty and grandsons Logan Doughty and Jacob Doughty of Columbus, MS.
Herb was born at Chanute AFB, Illinois and grew up in Farmerville and Monroe, LA. After high school, he worked on the oil rigs off the Louisiana coast for two years until he was drafted for Vietnam and selected to join the Air Force in 1973 into Jet Engine Aerospace Propulsion with his first duty station being at Columbus AFB, MS, where he met and married his wife, Maggie. Four years later he retrained to be a Flight Engineer on C-130s with his next duty stations would consist of Dyess AFB, TX, Eglin AFB, FL, Kadena AB, Okinawa, and finally retiring at Hurlburt Field, FL after 24 years of service. In his career he was deployed to many undisclosed locations and served distinctly in Desert Shield and Desert Storm. After retiring, he joined the Boeing team in Fort Walton Beach, FL working on the AMP Program on the C-130 and on drones.
He was known by many people as Kenney, Dad, Pee Paw Kenney (PPK), and Herb. He was an amazing man, a great friend, and a wingman to all. We love you and you’ll be greatly missed.
Herb will be honored with a full military service on Friday, May 20th, at Heritage Gardens Funeral Home in Niceville, FL with visitation from 1-2, and Funeral service beginning at 2pm. Interment will follow in Heritage Gardens Cemetery.
