Janice Fredericks Obituary

Janice Elizabeth Fredericks

February 13, 1938 - March 28, 2022

Janice “Jan” Elizabeth Fredericks, of Niceville, Florida passed from this earth at the age of 84 on March 28, 2022, after a brief battle with cancer. Born on February 13, 1938 in Arnold, Pennsylvania to Larry and Henrietta Mudd, her memory will live on in the hearts of her family: brother James (Nancylee); nieces Michele (Hans), Lisa (Gary), Diane; nephews Barry (Susan), Scott (Buffy); great-nieces Emory, Peyton, Lena, Tori; great-nephews Jacob, Dillon, Hunter, Steven, Holden and family friends: Matti Lambert, Judy Messenger, Susan Tauscher, The Howell Family, and The Ubowski Family.

Jan was preceded in death by her husband, Msgt. Richard “Dick” Fredericks USAF; parents, Larry and Henrietta Mudd; sister, Denise Mudd Strong.

Following her graduation from Arnold High School in Arnold, PA in 1956, Jan spent time in Lower Burrel, PA. She joined the United States Air Force as an airman in 1963 where she later met her husband Dick in 1964 at March, AFB in California. Dick and Jan were married in 1965 and were stationed there until Dick received orders to Vietnam from 1968-1969. Upon Dick’s return from Vietnam, they were stationed at Hurlburt Field in Florida where Jan began working for First City Bank as a teller from 1979-1981. Following her employment at the bank, Jan spent a brief time from 1982-1983 doing secretarial work at Choctawhatchee High School. After a tough battle with cancer, her husband, Dick, passed away in 1987. Following Dick’s death, Jan found a career in Financial Counseling at Consumer Credit Counseling Service (a non-profit organization) until she retired in 2003 and began concentrating her energy on enjoying her favorite hobbies and interests and volunteering her time at her church.

Jan was known for her sense of humor and bright blue eyes that sparkled when she laughed. She enjoyed woodworking, taking care of her yard, walking her beloved Yorkie (Barney) around the neighborhood, and spending time in one of her favorite places–the local library. She was an active part of the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church faith community for many years and generously volunteered in the Music Ministry there for a total of 19 years following her retirement. Jan loved to be around children, and Kyle Howell and Ava, Logan, and Leila Ubowski (who affectionately referred to her as “Aunt Jan”) became very close to her and adored her just as much as she adored them. Jan was loved deeply and will be missed greatly by all of her family and friends.

Jan will be honored at a Funeral Mass at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Niceville, Florida on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at 11:00am, with Reception to follow. The Interment with Full Military Honors will take place at Beal Memorial Cemetery at 3:00pm. Jan’s family and friends hope that those who knew and loved her will come join in this celebration of her life!

In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Jan are invited to make a donation to the charity of their choice in her name.
