Jean Catanese Crump, age 94, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2025, in Niceville, Florida. She was born in Cook County in Chicago, Illinois, spent most of her life in Glendale, Arizona, and her final years in Niceville. She was the daughter of Frank Catanese and Jean Azara Catanese.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Jean; brother, Louis Tom Catanese; sister, Nancy Cacioppo; and her son, Robert. She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Pat Matthews (Joe), Sandy Massing (Alan), Debbie West (Danny), Tom Catanese, Mike Catanese (Cathy), Carol Lee Brewer, and Nancy Lee Bonner (John).
Jean loved dogs of every kind and always had “a pooch” at home. She was an avid walker and was part of a crew that walked up and down the Grand Canyon several times at the age of 70. Jean loved to read, was fantastic at solving puzzles and crossword puzzles, and was a Scrabble queen. She was vivacious and eagerly explored all areas of the country. She loved maps and books which kept her learning and sharing stories with everyone.
At 75, Jean was a volunteer at the library in Glendale, Arizona and loved sharing her knowledge of travel. She has many friends throughout the USA and has shared stories of her visits and life with them. She traveled to her father’s hometown in Calascibetta, Sicily and found the farm her father called home. Aunt Jean will be missed by all of her nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews who cherished learning from her and loved her dearly.
A cremation will be arranged with Heritage Gardens Funeral Home and Crematory in Niceville, Florida, and a private graveside service will be held at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Hillside, Illinois.
