Jean Grosh Hancock passed away peacefully on 2 January 2024. She was born D. Jean Grosh on 3 February 1939 in Chambersburg PA to Omer and Margaret Grosh.
Jean attended Penn State University where she met a tall, handsome basketball player named Thomas Hancock and fell in love. Tom and Jean graduated Penn State and were married in the same week, and promptly moved across the world to Morocco, courtesy of the United States Air Force. During Tom’s career they lived in Savannah, GA, Lubbock, TX, Fairborn, OH, St. Louis, MO, and retired in Niceville, FL. When not raising their 3 children, Jean loved travelling with Tom, needlework, sewing, live theater, and chocolate candy bars. Jean loved to square dance! Together with Tom, they were active at the state and national level with a wonderful group of dancing friends. Jean’s greatest joy came with grandchildren, whom she treasured dearly.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Omer and Margaret Grosh, and her beloved husband Thomas Hancock. She is survived by her children: Dennis (Susan) Hancock, Stacey (Michael) Hughes, and Lori (Scott) Ratliff; grandchildren Daniel (Elizabeth) and Ben (Taylor) Hughes, Marisa (William) Kortbein, Kristen (Ian) Tully, Jonathan (Jordyn) Ratliff, and Tessa Hancock; great-grandchildren Adam and Isabella Kortbein and Wesley Tully. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Donna Grosh, nieces, nephews, and grands.
She will be remembered for sweet disposition and her laughter. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she and Tom are dancing together once again.
