Jerry Fowler Obituary

Jerry Cecil Fowler, 81, passed away peacefully on May 1 at HCA Florida Fort Walton-Destin hospital, surrounded by family. He was born July 11, 1944 in Florala Alabama, son of the late Norman Thomas Fowler and Flora Alexa Newton Fowler and brother to the late Thomas Fowler.

Jerry attended Auburn University, and then began his professional life at Hayes Aircraft as an engineer while pursuing a Master’s in Business Administration at Troy State University. He then went on to work with the United States Air Force, working for over 35 years in civil service as a Civil Defense Contracting Manager at Eglin Air Force Base. After a distinguished career of decades of dedication to the defense of the United States of America, he retired with high honors in 2010.

Jerry Fowler served St. Jude’s Episcopal Church for more than 50 years.  During those years, he often served on the vestry starting in the 1970’s and extending through 2007. He also served the church as Senior Warden, was the parish historian, and chaired the Finance Committee from 2010-2017. He offered his procedural expertise as Parliamentarian for the annual meetings in 2020 and 2021. He was known for his wisdom, dedication and commitment to the church and its members.  His knowledge and leadership contributed to shaping the parish into what it is today.

Although quite accomplished in his professional life, Jerry always said that the strength, intelligence, and beauty of his family were what made him the most proud in life.  A loving husband and father, Jerry is survived by his “darling angel” Susan Fowler, his devoted wife of 56 years, daughter Katherine Fowler, son-in-law Sahil Patel, son Jeremy Fowler, daughter-in-law Brie Klein-Fowler and granddaughters Larkin Patel, Sasha Patel, Willa Fowler and Evie Fowler. They will miss his subtle sense of humor, attention to detail, stories, wisdom, and his love for the Florida Gators, amongst many other things.

A celebration of life service will be held at St Jude's Episcopal Church in Niceville, FL on Saturday July 18, 2026 at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in his name to St. Jude's Episcopal Church.
