It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jill Rae Millis Gunnels who left us on January 12, 2026. She was born on July 3, 1930 in Medina, New York to Navy Capt. William Ray Millis and Florence Wells Millis.
She was a beloved spoused to Ret. Air Force Lt. Col. Thomas McCall Gunnels whom she married in 1954. She was preceded in death by her spouse, her brother William (Jack) Millis, and her oldest son Ret. Air Force Capt. Richard Thomas Gunnels.
Jill is survived by Susan Gunnels Nelson (married to David Nelson and mother of Joanna), William Ray Gunnels, Margaret Gunnels Jacob (married to Ron Jacob Jr. and mother to Jillian and Beverly), and granddaughters (Richard Gunnels) Janet Marie Gunnels and Amanda Gunnels who will cherish her memory and continue her legacy.
Jill Gunnels was a substitute teacher and librarian with the Okaloosa school system for many eyars. She earned her Bachelor's degree from Duke University and her Master's degree from the University of West Florida.
Jill's life will be celebrated by family at Heritage Gardens in Niceville, Florida on January 17, 2026.
