Jimmie Wigington Obituary

Jimmie Lou Wigington, 86, of Niceville, Florida passed away peacefully on April 12, 2023 at home with her husband and family. Jimmie Lou, a Niceville native, was born to mother Lilly Mae and step-father Everett Mills on May 18, 1936. Growing up in Niceville meant spending time taking in all that the area offers - trips to Turkey Creek, adventures in the bayous, and fun in the bay! In her youth, Jimmie Lou enjoyed spending time with her siblings, Virgie Lee and Aubrey (Bubber). Jimmie Lou had numerous relatives and friends to share in the fun.

After marrying a military man, Jimmie Lou traveled the states and abroad while embracing the military lifestyle. During this time, she was busy raising a family. Jimmie Lou birthed seven children. Needless to say, the household was a mecca for activity! Jimmie Lou would have it no other way. Surrounded by her children and their friends, Jimmie Lou poured her love into each and every one. It's no wonder everyone gathered at her house. It was an invitation to those that grasped what it meant to be part of a great family!

Later, Jimmie Lou would marry Charles (Chuck) Wigington. Together, they lived a blessed life that exceeded three decades. In the process, Jimmie Lou realized another daughter, Charlene. Always a fixture at family gatherings, Jimmie Lou would take great joy in having her family by her side. She took delight in the family banter, and there was more than enough to go around. Although mild-mannered and never wishing to offend anyone, she could hold her own. Don’t be fooled by her meek and timid persona, Jimmie Lou had a voice! If you just asked her, you’d get an opinion. Perhaps this trait lent itself for teachable moments for her children. Just ask them, they’ll share an opinion. Really a good thing to have a say in this world. With no barriers, Jimmie Lou communicated the love she had for all. She didn’t recognize worldly possessions as having great value, but instead concentrated on simplistic, Christian traits: love one another unequivocally, treat all fairly, look for the good in everyone. The world, our world, was a better place with Jimmie Lou.

Jimmie Lou is preceded in death by her parents Lilly Mae and Everett Mills, sister Virgie Lee Angela, brother Aubrey Weekley, son David Cruz (2 months old), niece Patricia Anglea, brother and sister-in-law RJ and Jimmie Ann Wigington.

Jimmie Lou is remembered by her husband, Charles Wigington, daughters Wanda Jackson (Scott), Elsie Miles (Mike), Jackie Herman (TC), and Charlene Wigington, sons Jerry Cruz, Mark Cruz (Suzanne), and Glenn Cruz (Linda). Additionally, 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, nieces Betty Lou Weekley and Belinda Parjani, and nephew Bruce Boone.

Accepting Jesus Christ as her savior, Jimmie Lou will forever reside in heaven. “Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.” Proverbs 31:28 NIV

Pallbearers are grandsons Tyler Jackson, Porter Wright, and Dylan Cruz, and great-grandsons, Owen Atkinson, Jordan Martinez, and Kurt Bell.
