John Landsverk Obituary

In a little town in Minnesota, Jack was born to Irvin and Judith Landsverk.  Jack knew at a very early age he did not want to be a farmer.  He loved riding the tractor but hated milking the cows.  He enlisted in the USAF the day after he graduated. He trained as a gunner and had orders to Korea, but a truce was reached, and his orders were cancelled.  Jack went back to school in Texas to train as an airplane mechanic, and later as a scanner on B-50s.

His first duty station was West Palm Beach. He went to the beach one sunny day and Barbara walked into his life.  He looked at her in a black bathing suit, and said “I sure like black bathing suits”, which Barbara quickly kicked sand on him.  A year later, they started dating, and 18 months later, they were married.  After he met Barbara he converted to the catholic faith, and he took his faith very seriously.  He truly believed that God is, was, and is to come.

Jack had many duty stations stateside, and overseas; he served in Japan (Yakota), Vietnam, Hawaii and Iran.  He was in Isfahan, Iran when the government was overthrown.  His final duty station was Eglin A.F.B. in which he rose to the rank of Senior Master Sergeant.

He built his home in Niceville, and joined Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church.   His friends Denny, Pat, and Bud invited him to join the Knights of Columbus, a beginning of a wonderful new chapter in his life.  He held the office of warden, worked Friday night bingo, and served at the senior luncheon.  Jack served as an usher for over 20 years on Saturday evenings at the 5:00 p.m. Mass.

Upon retiring, he and Barbara enjoyed traveling, going out to dinner with friends, playing cards, and everything they did, they did together for 67 years.

Traveling all over the world, they raised two children, Susan (Richard) and John (JL) (deceased).  Jack is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Susan; grandchildren, Randy (Kim), Melissa (Nicole), Levi (Shanelle), Chase, Cody (deceased).  He has six great grandchildren; Tyler, Aurelia, Greysin, Asher, Lil Jack and Cherry.  He has two brothers, Lou (Sue) and Lanny (both deceased), and sister Lavonne who lives in Minnesota.   With each new generation, he grew prouder and prouder. He was “Pop” to them all.

God called him home, we miss him, but we know he is in heaven with God and his family who went before him.
