John (Jack) Nickerson Obituary

Our wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend, John (Jack) Nickerson, made his graceful exit from this life on June 16, 2020, carrying with him the love and admiration of the many lives he touched.

Jack was born on April 12, 1946 in Boston, Massachusetts to Lester and Evelyn Nickerson. Jack lived in various cities around the United States due to his father’s enlistment in the Air Force.  In 1959, he took up residency in Fort Walton Beach, FL and graduated from Choctawhatchee High School in 1964.  Jack served in the Navy and after that attended The University of Florida where he graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree.

Jack’s line of work moved him around often.  He has called Colorado, Arizona, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, Texas and Florida home throughout his life.  Many friends were made along the way.  In 2015, Jack finally retired and began living a dream that he had dreamed of for many years.

With his wife, Patty, they sold their house and bought a boat that they called home. The Nearly Perfect took them on many adventures and gave them an opportunity to explore parts of the United States and Canada.  Their biggest adventure was starting and completing The Great Loop.  Jack was happiest on the back deck of his boat surrounded by his wife, daughter, granddaughters, family and many friends he made living out his dream.

Jack is preceded in death by his father Lester E. Nickerson. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Patricia (Patty) Nickerson (Walker); mother, Evelyn (Lagg) Nickerson of Niceville; brother, Gary Nickerson (Shelly) and sister, Linda St. John (James) of Niceville, FL. He is also survived by his only daughter, Jennifer Hamrick of Semmes, AL; two granddaughters who were the biggest joys of his life, Kayla and Katie, both of Semmes, AL; sister-in-law, Susan Reagan (Walker); three nephews, Jason St. John (Jeania) of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, Christopher St. John (Melissa) of Santa Rosa Beach, FL and Nathan Nickerson of Beverly Hills, CA; and four great nieces, Allie, Kelsie, Lillian and Ella.  Jack also left behind many friends that he felt were like family.

There will be a private family memorial at Heritage Gardens Cemetery in Niceville, FL on June 26, 2020.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your favorite charity or memorialize him by performing an act of kindness for someone else.
