Kyle Murray Obituary

Kyle Pope Murray sadly departed this earthly world on April 2 2022.

He was a quiet giant among men,  with a high sense of integrity and work ethic where he earned numerous awards and accolades during his careers. He worked tirelessly for 28 years in the military, serving in the Korean War as a radio operator on the flight lines (where he said he was the coldest he had ever been while living in a snow covered tent) and the Vietnam war. He served his country all over the world including Labrador, Canada, Thailand, and Okinawa and numerous locations across the US. After retiring from the military, he served another 25 years as a civil servant at Eglin AFB as the Deputy Comptroller for the 53rd wing. While he earned many accommodations and awards he never mentioned them, only focusing on others.

Family was the most important ideal to him. He was a loving husband for 69 years to Clara Louise Harless (Mimi),  father to Debbie Murray, (Deta) Teri Murray Sotherland (Scott) and Mark Murray (Michelle); grandfather (Dadaw) to Courtney Sotherland Roddenberry (Cindy),  Christopher Murray (Bridget), and Lindsay Sotherland Bales (Matt) and great-grandfather to Emerson, Ellie, Mattylin, Johnathan, Clara and Harper.

He frequently said that Mimi was the world to him and his everything! He was so  proud of his kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, marveling at all that they do and the wonderful people they have become. Throughout retirement he enjoyed eating out,  going to Biloxi with Mimi, and spending time with his family. He taught his family how a quiet man can be a great man. Our hearts are broken and we miss him greatly, but know he is flying high among the angels and finally pain free.

He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Pearlie Murray and sister Virginia Murray Allison (William). He is survived by sisters Shirley Murray Howard (Bernie) and Phyllis Murray Moore (James), cousins, numerous nephews, nieces and grand nephews and nieces.
