Born on July 31, 1945 to Jose and Eulalia Ramos in Holguin, Cuba, Laura Josephine Mowrey was the oldest of three children. At the age of three, her family immigrated to the United States to Opa-locka, Florida, where they remained through her childhood years. She fell in love with her high school sweetheart, Tim Mowrey, and they were later married on December 30, 1966. Once married, she supported her husband while he was serving in the US Coast Guard. She gave birth to their first child while stationed in Charlotte, NC.
In 1976, she co-founded Mowrey Elevator Company in Davie, Florida and continued to advise business matters for the next 49 years. While managing Mowrey Elevator, she drove a school bus for All American Christian Academy in Cooper City, Florida. She was the Academy’s skilled seamstress, making uniforms for the students. She also founded Lollipop Daycare in South Florida, which she ran for several years.
Once the family moved to North Florida, she continued to manage Mowrey Elevator Company and decided to try her hand at farming. She and her husband founded Cattle Creek Ranch, a farm where they grew hay and raised cattle, ostriches, and many other animals. The farm went on to become one of the largest ostrich farms in the southeast, with it’s farm growing to 300 birds. When Tim decided to become a pilot, she gladly took the right seat as his co-pilot. She always loved trying something new and exciting. In her spare time, she enjoyed doing puzzles and tending to her house plants. However, above all these amazing accomplishments, her very favorite thing was her family and her relationship with Jesus Christ. She was a mother to three children, and Nana to six grandchildren. She spent every free minute with her husband, children, and grandchildren, laughing, playing cards, and enjoying all the elements of life together. She was dedicated to her church and meeting the needs of those around her. She truly was an amazing example of the Hands and Feet of Jesus in her daily life.
She was preceded in death by her father Jose’ Ramos and mother Eulaia Ramos. She is survived by Tim Mowrey Sr., Laura and Roger Williams, Tim and Julie Mowrey, Victoria and Ryan Farrell, Trevor and Allie Williams, Rachel Williams, Kathryn Farrell, Sophia Farrell, Ryan Farrell, Christopher Tru Farrell, (Soon to be) Cooper Williams, Mary Wilson, and Joe Ramos.
