Lois Kae Wilson, former resident of Hammond, Indiana, Grand Haven, Michigan, The Villages, Florida, and most recently Niceville, Florida, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at the age of 86.
Lois is survived by her four children: John Todd Voss of Nevada, Tim (Laura) Voss of Kentucky, Tom Voss of New York, Marla (Collin) Smith of Florida; her five grandchildren: Helen Voss, Nathan and Rachel Smith, and Ava and Van Voss; as well as and her brothers Bob and Ron Martin, both of Indiana, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband John Voss after 30 years of marriage, her second husband Dennis Wilson after 30 years of marriage, and her parents Harold and Elsie Martin.
Lois was born and grew up in Hammond, Indiana. She was a graduate of Lew Wallace High School and was the first in her family to attend college, earning a teaching degree from Purdue University. While at Purdue, Lois married John Voss, later relocating to Grand Haven, Michigan where they raised their 4 children.
She worked as a second grade teacher and, after raising her family, at St Paul’s United Church of Christ, Edward Jones, and Kress Engineering. She was an active volunteer, serving on the founding committee of Lakeshore Lutheran Church in Grand Haven, Meals on Wheels, and the church flower ministry. She led women’s Bible studies and taught English as a second language. One of her proudest accomplishments was establishing a chapter of Love In the Name of Christ in The Villages, Florida to serve those in need in the community.
After John’s passing, Lois married Dennis Wilson. They later moved to The Villages, Florida and then Niceville, Florida.
Lois will be remembered for loving the Lord, her family, and her greatest joys, her grandchildren. She was an avid reader and enjoyed the symphony, gardening, daily crossword puzzles, and sunsets. Her grandchildren will always remember swimming in her pool, playing games and cards, putting on Thanksgiving and Christmas plays for the family, and traveling together.
Her family extends a special thanks to her caretaker and companion, Tori Lee-Battin, and to staff at The Blake for their extraordinary care and support.
A Memorial Service will be held in Hammond, Indiana at a later date.
