Lomax Donaldson, of Niceville FL, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, went to his heavenly home on April 8, 2021. He was born June 1, 1935 in Coffee County, Alabama to Lucille and Dick Donaldson. He is preceded in death by his parents, and four siblings (Robert, Dessie Ree, Hubert, and Lamar.) He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Martha, as well as their three children, Larry (Debora Gale), Kenny (Patty), and Lonnie (Tiffany). He also leaves behind eight grandchildren; Brandon (Amanda) Donaldson, Sarah (Kenny) Geisler, Amanda (Clay) Simpler, Whitney Donaldson, Lauren (Tate) DeShong, Nick Donaldson, Lindsey Donaldson, and Lexi Donaldson; five great-grandchildren, William Donaldson, Charlie Simpler, Lilly Donaldson, Anna Simpler, Layne DeShong; three siblings, Cecil Donaldson, Louise Spikes, and Bernice Donaldson.
Lomax served two years in the Navy, from 1955-1957. He married the love of his life, Martha, in Coffee County, Alabama, and relocated to Valparaiso, where they grew their family. He was well-known and loved in the Niceville/Valparaiso community, with 48 years of service to the City of Valparaiso, 30 of which he served as Chief of Police. He was a great friend to many, always willing to lend a helping hand, and never met a stranger. He enjoyed the outdoors, family time, and spending some of his first years of retirement on his property, lovingly referred to as “Eight Angels Acres” after his eight grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held Saturday, April 10 at Heritage Gardens Funeral Home from 5-7pm. A funeral service will be Sunday, April 11, beginning at 2:00pm, also at Heritage Gardens Funeral Home. Interment will at Sunset Cemetery.
