Lorraine Jones Godwin, a woman of grace, compassion, and an unbridled love for life, passed away peacefully on 28 December 2023 at the age of 86. Lorraine left behind a legacy of joy, warmth, and an enduring love for adventure, travel and love for her family and the many people she embraced as family.
Born on 3 February 1937 to Jacob and Gladys Walkowiak, Lorraine grew up in Duluth, Minnesota, with her siblings who remained close friends and travel adventure companions throughout her life. Lorraine was the eldest sibling to Richard Walkowiak (Joan, deceased), Daniel Walkowiak (deceased), Joe Walkowiak (Lyn), and Joany Primm (Roger).
Lorraine's greatest treasures were her four daughters from husband Eddie Jones: Loretta Jones (deceased), Annette Hart, Donna Greep (Jeff), and Lisa Jones. Her role as a mother was not just a duty but a celebration of love, guidance, and unwavering support. Despite the heartache of losing her daughter Loretta Jones, Lorraine continued to exude strength, resilience, and a deep love that transcended the boundaries of life and death. Additional treasures were added with the marriage to Carter Godwin who brought a renewed love for life and an additional daughter and son to treasure, Carla Cooper and Jamie Godwin (Merrina).
Lorraine is survived by her treasure trove of grandchildren Justin Price (Amanda), Jenna Greep, Alec Boisjolie, Jared Greep, Jake Cooper, Caitlin Zidan (Waheed), Kyle Boisjolie, Aaron Cooper, Sims Godwin, Seth Godwin, and great grandson Carter Price. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her but remembered with fondness for the love she shared and the family she created.
Lorraine is survived by her dear friend Ron Peterson who was her best friend and caretaker.
Lorraine’s love for gatherings with music, dancing and great laughter were a testament to her vibrant spirit and left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of sharing in her love for life. A social matriarch with a heart that knew no bounds, Lorraine had an exceptional ability to turn strangers into cherished family members. Her home was a haven of warmth, her heart an open door, and her laughter a melody that brought people together in celebration of life's precious moments.
Lorraine's love reflected her vivacious spirit. Whether twirling across a cruise ship dance floor or playing cards in the kitchen, she found pure joy in the rhythm of life. Her infectious enthusiasm for life inspired her children and grandchildren, creating a legacy that lives on in the memories of those who shared the joy of life with her.
In addition to her devotion to her family, Lorraine was an active member of the Elks Lodge, where she volunteered her time and energy to uplift others. Her impact reached far beyond her immediate circle, leaving an enduring legacy of kindness, generosity, and connection.
A celebration of Lorraine's life will be held at 4:00pm on 14 January 2024 at the Elks Lodge in Valparaiso, Florida.
May the memories of those whose lives she touched, and her legacy of love and joy inspire us all to live with the same passion and openness that defined her remarkable journey.
