Marie S. Field, age 89. Marie left us peacefully on Sunday, December 28th, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones at her home in Choctaw Beach, Florida. Marie was born on September 22, 1936, to Charles and Pearl Schmidt in New Braunfels, Texas. In 1968, she moved to the Niceville area with her husband, Cliff, where they set down roots and built a wonderful life together. Marie was a dedicated school bus driver for the Okaloosa County School District in the Niceville area for over 25 years, transporting generations of children to school and on memorable field trips.
Marie had a passion for watching Nascar during "the good years," cheering for the University of Texas football team, and rooting for the Dallas Cowboys. She also loved collecting anything related to Coca-Cola and spending her weekends at yard sales and thrift stores. Her favorite thrift store was the "Church Store," better known to others as the Bargain Box in Niceville.
Marie is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Pearl Schmidt, her husband Clifford Field, two sons, Tom Field and Pat Field, and one grandson Cannon Applewhite. She is survived by her beloved sister, Ladell Schmidt, and sons Richard Field and James "Jimbo" Field (wife Kathy). She leaves behind eight grandchildren: Clarise Heintzleman (husband Tyler), Danielle Laurenza (husband Brandon), Steven Field, Christy Stockton (husband Jeff), Lauren Field, Amanda Grimes, Tiffany Field, Becca Field, and Birdie Bozeman. Additionally, she is survived by ten great-grandchildren: Ava & Thomas Heintzleman, Riley & Brayden Laurenza, Kaleigh Field, Kade and Kallie VanHouten, Ian and Carmen Seymour, and Brookelyn Applewhite; and two great-great-grandchildren, Oaklyn and Waylon Seymour.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Jordan McCrary of Gentiva Hospice and the rest of the care team for their support during Marie’s final days. A special recognition goes to her cardiologist, Dr. Dudley, who checked in on her multiple times during her hospital stays.
In accordance with Marie's wishes, we will not be holding a traditional funeral service. Instead, we invite you to join us for a celebration of her life with a time of visitation, food, and fellowship on Saturday, January 10th, 2026, from 1-3 p.m. at the Niceville Community Center located at 204 N Partin Drive, Niceville, Florida.
