Michael Fink Obituary

Michael Leonard Fink (age 68) Passed away peacefully at his home on Sept 26, 2021 after fighting colon cancer for more than 4 1/2 years.

Mike was born in New Orleans on January 10, 1953 to Ralph Fink (a police officer) and Dolores Joubert.  He graduated from high school and college in New Orleans.  Mike joined the Air Force prior to college and was stationed in Thailand working on B52 bombers for 18 months during the Viet Nam war.  When he returned to the US, he was employed as an air force civil servant involved in foreign military sales which gave him an opportunity for international travel (Hong Kong, Japan, and Saudi Arabia).  He was then stationed at Tyndall AFB (Panama City) and Eglin AFB (Niceville) working as a program manager and logistics specialist.  Mike met his wife Corlee on Thanksgiving night in 1989 at City Lights nightclub in New Orleans.  It was love at first sight and they were married in 1990.

Michael loved the beach.  Period.  He also enjoyed boating, spending time on Crab Island, pitching horseshoes (won many trophies), and partying on Destin Harbor.  He and his wife enjoyed dressing in costumes for Mardi Gras and Halloween and were members of the Emerald Coast Parrothead Club.  Mike was a hat and van man.  Always wore a hat and always drove a van. He was an excellent cook, could fix anything, was a clean freak, and very meticulous about everything he did.  He was a patient, funny, kind, generous, and optimistic man.  Mike loved his family and cherished his friends.  He will be missed greatly.

His survivors include his wife Corlee (Diemert), brother David, sisters Karen Amato, Darlene Bare, and Diane Curly, and brothers in law Kevin Curley, Joe Amato, and Steven Diemert.  Mike's nieces and nephews include Jennifer, Alicia, Kerry, Jodi, Joey, Dominic, and Toni Michelle.

He was preceded in death by his sister Melanie and parents.

For their compassionate and tremendous care a big Thank You goes out to all of Mike's doctors, nurses, and medical staff at Ochsner Hospital New Orleans, Mayo Clinic Minnesota, Sacred Heart and Genesis Santa Rosa Beach, FL., Lifeline in Niceville, and Emerald Coast Hospice.

An informal, casual celebration of Mike's life and sharing of memories will be held at their condo in Destin on Sat Nov 6 at 2 pm.  Please call 850 897 1294 for additional information if you would like to attend.
