Nathaniel Scott Buharp Jr., a proud veteran and Ranger in the US Army 82nd Airborne Division, retired Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force, and longtime resident of Niceville, Florida, died peacefully in Fort Walton Beach, FL on August 14, 2021. A veteran of the Korean & Vietnam wars, he was awarded numerous medals to include: Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, and the Meritorious Service Medal.
CMSGT Buharp was born on January 16, 1933 in Williamsport, MD to Nathaniel and Blanch Buharp. In 1951 he joined the Army and later the Air Force in 1959.
In 1957 he married Jane Shank and they had two sons, Eric and Matthew. As a family they toured as a military family and had many adventures to include Guam, Australia, Alaska, Georgia, and Florida.
In 1965 he became a certified scuba diver with NAUI. As an avid dive instructor, he helped hundreds of students so they too could become dive certified and enjoy the wonders underwater.
He is survived by his wife Jane; his son Matthew, daughter-in-law Marie; his grandchildren Tanner, Hunter, Cade, and Kristina. He is preceded in death by his son Eric.
