Nellie Burton

Nellie Burton transitioned to her heavenly home om April 25th, 2022. She was born to late Oscar Womble and Rosa McLean. She was also preceded in death by her brother David Womble.

She graduated JS Water High School in 1961 and received a Bachelor of Arts from Shaw University. Later she received a Master of Arts Degree in teaching from the University of the Philippines.

As an elementary teacher she taught the 4th and 5th grades in the Okaloosa County System prior to retiring. She was a passionate teacher who deeply cared about students.

She was married to James W Burton for 59 years and left behind to cherish her memory three children- Ingrid Burton-Hikes, Anthony and James Kevin Burton plus two grandchildren- Austin and Olivia. Other relatives include Thomas Womble (Mary Lacy) of Goldston, NC; Floyd Womble (Beverly) of Bear Creek, NC; Gladys Herring (Cleveland) of Wilmington, NC; Evander Womble of Standford, NC; Eva Bland (Bobby) of Hampton, VA; Esther Womble of Bear Creek, NC; Janice Thompson of Raleigh NC; and Melvin Womble (Pam) of Augusta GA.

No obituary would be completed without addressing her profound love for God. She was a devoted member of the Eglin AFB Service. At various times, she participated at a number of activities including teaching Children's Church, attending Bible Studies, etc.
