On September 20, 2023, Oscar Soler went to be with the Lord following a long illness. Oscar was born on December 31, 1940 in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico to Maria Amalia Godoy and Oscar Soler. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Gloria Ramirez Soler and Edna DeJesus Soler and granddaughter, Katelyn Grace Kenney. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Brenda, daughters Vanessa (Greg) Taylor, Cristina (Brandon) Kenney, grandchildren Rachel (Alex) Kenney, Zachary Taylor and Blake Kenney as well as many precious nieces and nephews.
Oscar graduated from the University of Puerto Rico and the University of Alabama with degrees in Electrical Engineering and from Stanford University college of business. In the early years of his career, he worked for several companies in support of the aerospace and defense industry. The last 27 years of his career were spent in public service at Eglin Air Force Base, where he considered his greatest contribution serving as director of the Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM).
He enjoyed traveling, sports, especially college football (Roll Tide), but his greatest pleasure in life was the role of husband, father and grandfather, loving and watching his children and grandchildren grow. He was a member of Crosspoint Church where he loved participating in small groups, most recently the Journey Life Group.
As written by his granddaughter, “My Grandfather was the biggest force of joy I’ve ever met-he never met a stranger, always looked for the good, and never let life get him down.”
In lieu of flowers, the family requests you honor Oscar with a random act of kindness to reflect his loving and generous spirit.
All who knew Oscar are invited to a Celebration of his life at Rocky Bayou Country Club in Niceville on Sunday, October 15 at 2:00. In Oscar’s words, “The celebration of life has to be that- a CELEBRATION, a party. People should dress in bright colors-red, yellow, green, blue. There should be laughter and happiness for me. I want people to remember me when I was silly, stupid, clumsy, happy, funny, outrageous, crazy, brilliant, dumb, ridiculous, foolish, and absurd. Then laugh about it all.”
