Rachel Baker Jones of Niceville, Florida, passed away on May 2, 2020, at the age of 95.
She was born in Pageland, South Carolina, on August 19, 1924, to Thomas Lee and Alma Smith Baker. She grew up in Pageland and graduated from Meredith College, Raleigh, NC, in 1945, majoring in Business Administration.
She was a secretary at the U.S. Office of Education in Washington, DC, and at Environmental Protection Agency and Public Health Administration in Rockville, MD.
Rachel married Chuck in 1949, and they lived in six different states before moving to Niceville in 1990. After retirement, they completed touring all fifty states.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church on Bayshore where she actively participated in Legacy Senior Adults and her Sunday School class. She delivered Meals on Wheels in Niceville for years, even to folks younger than herself.
Rachel was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Thomas Carroll Baker.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Charles Edward Jones, of Niceville, Florida; son Charles E. Jones, Jr. and his wife Kathleen of Atlantic Beach, FL; and her daughter Kathryn Clark and her husband Horace “Skip” Clark of Niceville, FL.
She is also survived by her three grandchildren: Tammy Jones, Christopher Clark and his wife Lauren, and Timothy Clark and his wife Jessica, and nine great-grandchildren: Skylar, John, Adriana, Morgan, Bennett, Asher, Noah, Lucas, and Charlotte.
A graveside service will be held at Riverview Memorial Cemetery in Wallace, NC.
