Richard Chester Albert Konkolewski

Richard Chester Albert Konkolewski, age 83, passed away peacefully at home on August 4, 2026, surrounded by his wife Karen, daughter Sandy, and son, Steven.

Richard was born April 11, 1943, in Philadelphia, PA, to Chester and Stella Konkolewski. He graduated from Hampton High School in Virginia in 1961 and began a distinguished military career as a United States Air Force Inertial Navigation Tech/Instructor. In 1963, while stationed at Aberdeen Proving Ground, he met Karen Lee of Arlington, Virginia, and they married in 1965.

After retiring from the Air Force, Richard entered Wesley College in Dover, Delaware, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration graduating Cum Laude. He was an elected two-term Student Government President. He was also a member of Phi Theta Kappa, received the Phi Theta Kappa Medal, and the prestigious President’s Gavel at graduation. Additionally, he held the position of Coach for the Wesley College Women’s Tennis Team. Following college graduation in 1980, he worked for Electronic Data Systems.

In 1983, Richard entered the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Child Support Enforcement. He dedicated his career to supporting programs that helped families and children throughout the country, ultimately retiring as Deputy Director after 30 years of service.

Richard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He cherished time with his family and took immense pride in the lives and accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. He had a passion for golf, guns, many DIY projects around the house, and tennis, which included being part of the Professional Tennis Registry.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Karen; his daughter Sandy Pauson, his son Steven Konkolewski; and his grandchildren, Emily, Ryan, and Hannah. He is preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Stella Konkolewski; and his brother, John Konkolewski. Whether through his work or his unwavering love for his family, he left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Richard will be remembered for his kindness, quiet strength, unwavering integrity, and steadfast commitment to those he loved. He will be deeply missed and forever loved by all who knew him.

On Monday, August 17, 2026, visitation will be held at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church 9:00-9:30 for family, 9:30 to 10:00 open to others, followed by a Catholic Funeral Mass 10:00-11:00. A private graveside service will take place at 2:00 pm at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida.
