Roger enjoyed spending time playing golf with family, fishing for catfish, and talking about old times with his friends down at the AMVETS. He was an active member of the Valparaiso Heritage Museum and Chamber of Commerce.

On November 17, 1964, Roger enlisted in the United States Army where he was stationed in North Carolina, Italy, Panama, and Georgia. He was a Vietnam Veteran, having served three tours in Thailand. Upon retirement from the Army, Roger relocated his family to Valparaiso, Florida where he was an IT Specialist with Okaloosa-Walton Community College (OWCC). During his time there, he was the lead for the transition from analog to digital computers. In 1995, Roger retired from OWCC and ventured out as a small business owner, opening American Athletic Uniforms in Valparaiso, Florida.

On February 14, 1969, Roger married the love of his life, Geraldine “Gerri” Kelly. The two were each other’s lifelong companions and best friends. They were blessed with three beautiful children: Eva, Daniel, and Donald.
