Sharon Kay (Lea) Hargreaves was born December 20, 1944, to Ruby (Bruce) and Albert H. Lea in Amarillo, Texas. Sharon graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1963, going on to Amarillo State College where she studied Physical Education intending to become a P.E. teacher. Sharon did not let her 5’2” stature prevent her from being a formidable athlete as a forward of her basketball team and catcher of the softball team. She was very active in numerous committees and organizations setting a precedent for her future. Sharon achieved her AA before marrying and starting her family. Sharon was an exemplary role model and devoted Mother and Grandmother.
Sharon worked as the Stockroom Manager at Travis Air Force Base and Computer Operations Manager of the Army Air Force Exchange at Moody AFB in Valdosta, Georgia, retiring after 20 years of service. It was there that Sharon met the love of her life, Robert, marrying in 2002. Bob and Sharon lived in Maine for 15 years, wintering in Niceville. In 2013, they decided to make the move permanent, living life to the fullest, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Sharon was very artistic spending many hours painting, doing ceramics, sewing, and crafting. She loved gardening, feeding her birds, traveling with her husband, and she was a voracious reader.
Sharon was a very spiritual person devoted to her faith and sharing that devotion with others. She was a very active member of Christ Our Redeemer Catholic Church, the Council of Catholic Women, and served many as a Eucharistic Minister. Sharon was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, brothers James and Wayne, and sister-in-law Violet.
Sharon is survived by her husband Robert, brother Alfred, daughters Pamela Swafford and Beverly Baum, grandchildren Shelby Ader and her husband Zachary, Taylor Swafford, Raife and Caige Baum, one great-grandchild Ronan Ader, step-children JoAnna McNally, Terrance and Timothy Hargreaves and their families, and a large extended family. Sharon leaves a void in our lives that cannot be filled. She is greatly missed.
We would like to thank the dedicated staff at the Manor who made her final days as comfortable as possible.
Our family would like to express a special heartfelt thank you to all the devoted friends who have spent countless hours supporting our mother and father through this difficult time. We cannot convey how much it means to have such generous, compassionate care and acts of kindness extended to our family. You are so appreciated.
